[UK-CONTEST] FW: Fishing line as support

Hello all,
Reading this thread with interest and cringing at some of the comments - sorry I
am also a fisherman of many years.
And from my experience I would not use any type of nylon monofilament line for
any support. It is not very abrasive resistant, it tends to weaken when
stretching, and as already pointed out is a danger to birds and other wildlife
(even us humans as stated by hat and glasses being taken off). I change my line
on my reels every year, even if I haven't used them, just for the fact that the
line degrades and could break just as I hit the fish of a lifetime - I guess you
could say the one that got away.
As for braid, yes it is strong and durable but again it degrades in UV light.
And as some one has already mentioned they have had the line (monofilament) snap
in winter through high voltages. Braid will retain the water and will also do
this, and I have seen this happen on a prototype hex beam.
Personally I would go for the Kevlar as in the link below, or from W&S, but in
all cases I would use some kind of insulator, ceramic egg type if available,
just to be on the safe side of things.
Cheers and beers.

There is that 2mm Kevlar line on sale which has 400lbs break strain. Rocket
Radio in Letchworth sell it in the shop or on ebay..

certainly size v strength it is fantastic and it isn't really visible unless
you are looking for it or against a clear sky.
Just looking at my garden and the bit that supports the end of the doublet
is invisible against the trees, you can only see the bit from the top of the
flagpole to the end of the wire.
