Sad, sad news. Bryn was the "beacon" in these parts! No DEZ....."conditions
must be bad". Always a gentleman.
RIP Bryn

At Bob's suggestion I connected to his GB3UJS-3 full RBN feed and left the
dongle sucking in spots for a while. After an hour the rough stats told me a
total traffic of 3.91Mb which means 100Mb should cover it over 24 hours.
Should be able to watch a bit of telly as well if it gets really slack.....
Don't normally do assisted but there doesn't appear to be any choice in ssb
field day...(?) 73, Stewart, GW0ETF

Hi,
Has anyone ever measured the volume of data transfer for a telnet connection
to a cluster node?
Going to play around with a broadband dongle in ssb field day and our PAYG
device has a 500Mb daily 'limit' and not really sure how that's going to
work out in practice. Not sure how strict they'll be if you do go over, it's
a T-Mobile dongle.
Thanks,
Stewart, GW0ETF

Of course, you could also set filters to stop the traffic you really don't
need and cut down the amount of bandwidth required.

I heard earlier that Bryn, G4DEZ went SK yesterday from a heart attack.
The bands will sadly be a quieter place without Bryn and his massive signal
from JO03.

Sad news indeed, always a consistent signal from JO03.

That's very sad. I had many a skirmish with Bryn during his tenure as
Chairman of the VHFCC, and later whilst I was on the CC and he was a
'customer'. All done in a very gentlemanly way. Bryn leaves the hobby a
substantial legacy.

Sad news indeed.
I've knew Bryn since his days before JO03, when he was in Southend in JO01
and a near RF neighbour. Always a loud but narrow signal.
A stalwart of the higher bands, RIP Bryn,

Very sad news.
A number of years ago, I did a UHF contest with Bryn, Martin G4XUM, Chris
G0FDZ and I think Ian
G0AFH from Bryn's place.
As I recall, the wx was poor - but with a bit of DX aside (even after my
hoebrew 70cms amp
refused to tune properly!!), the main aspect of the weekend that sticks in
my mind was the social
side of it.
On Saturday night, with the bands long since producing their familiar white
noise, Bryn produced a
number of the biggest steaks I've ever seen. Half a cow on a plate.
Superb...... We ragchewed DX
until the wee hours and polished off a bottle or two along the way....
RIP Bryn.

This is very sad news.
Bryn was a regular contact in the VHF contests but was also a real pleasure
to work outside contests when time was not an issue.
The VHF bands will be missing a real gentleman.
