Please note that if there was significant power loss in a connector then it
would get very hot. To test continuous CW ID  at 400 watts for a couple of
minutes. Touch connector if you burn your hand then it has loss. If it is
warm then power loss is minimal. If it is cold no power loss at all. 

 

If it gets hot then you have a dry joint - remake it. PL259s up to 150MHz
and probably higher have insignificant loss.

 

Biggest problem with PL259s is not soldering the braid correctly to the
connector. I prefer to use the braid clamp type (similar to the N Type
connector ). Can get these from Westlake. This avoids the soldering problem
as well as having level of higher water proofing.
