Dave this also brings up the point that there is no real penalty for getting
the callsign wrong. Why not the RSGB do what everyone else does and deduct a
total of 3 qsos for such an error. That way everyone my learn to be more
careful with callsigns and whatever else they enter in there log.

I think it correct that errors should be penalised even if the Serial Number
is out by just one. However since there are 10 points per contact in AFS
could the penalty for a small error be just a couple of points - instead of
losing the QSO entirely. I am inclined to think both stations should be
penalised as it is 50/50 who was wrong - unless a trend develops with a
particular station being repeatedly high-lighted.
In this year's AFS there were a couple of QSOs where I was not certain of
the S. No. and as the other station didn't wait for confirmation or to give
a repeat I deleted the QSO entirely.
I see no merit in replacing the present exchange by locator - the QRA's of
most entrants will quickly become known - and automatically filled in by the
logging s/w.
I had one serial error in my UBN - out by 10 not 1!
