Hello Jeff and VHFers

That is great news and your contact served  to cap off a great night on
222 MHz EME.  My plan was to be QRV in hopes that a few single yagi
stations might try their luck at  hearing an EME signal. It was nice
that a few others git involved and it made for much more fun.  I started
just after my Moon rise and had K1OR  in NH listening for echoes. It was
difficult as the direct signal is very loud with us being about 50 miles
apart. John did see  two signals but was unsure that it was Moon
reflected.   He could not properly decode it. Then WA3EOQ showed up a
bit late after the Moon was well up at his FM09 QTH. He copied me very
well at -20 to -17 dB. I did not copy him, but he is running less than
100 watts in the shack. We have had a QSO in the past. PJ4MM  also
showed up but well after his Moon window and copied NIL.  Next I was
looking for a few stations in the Texas area, and WQ5S and W5EME both
called with FB signals  They both were using single yagis.  I also
worked N0AKC. Charlie has a pair of yagis with elevation and is a
regular on 222 EME. I had hoped that AI5I in NM might show up, so was
calling CQ up to 20:00 UT with no signals heard for about 20 minutes. I
pulled the plug at 20:00 ut and started shutting down the amp. I killed
the HV and turned off the filaments. Then I looked at the WSJTX screen
and saw that AI5I was calling me at 20:00. So I re aimed the yagis and
started sending him a report. In all the excitement, I failed to
remember that I had turned off the amp. I went for six or seven
sequences and wondered why I did not get any RRR.  I copied him every
sequence with good signals. (-22 to -25 or so) Then I looked at the
amplifier plate current meter and it was sitting at ZERO all the time.
I was not transmitting.  By then I was late and had to QRT, so we missed
a very nice QSO.  I have heard AI5I before, but we have yet to make a
QSO.  It seems that he was hearing me just fine this time, and then
worked W7JW after I went QRT.  He was worried tat he was not hearing
well.  Turns out he is hearing well!! So that is a short summary of the
evening on 222.  One partial and two complete contacts with single yagi
stations.  AND W7JWked AI5I forSO #1. AI5I is in New Mexico for all of
you WAS hunters.

We are expecting freezing rain on Tuesday, so I will probably miss the
activity night action. High VSWR and high power do not go well together.
