Yes, you are missing something.  As I pointed out, this is incorrect
information.  During SSB DVK, I know
of at least three ways to control PTT:

    a.  through the W5XD+ keyer/control.
    b.  through LPTport/CommPort RTS.
    c.  by command on the rig control port.

I have tested all three here on the 756PRO including the somewhat bizarre
case of
rig control (without PTT) control being on COM1 and controlling PTT on COM5.
All cases worked.  In addition, the signals used were verifying using an
RS232 display
board.
