[WriteLog] Recording Messages

I have everything in the sound card system working now but the ability 
to record messages.
The microphone is connected to the mic input and is working with the 
echo microphone feature.
The line out is connected through an isolator to the radio and is 
working fine with both live voice (echo mic) and pre-recorded messages.
With all of that working, I just can't seem to find what is preventing 
messages from being recorded.
What happens is: the wave file is created for the duration of the 
message but when played back, it is silent.
What is going on at the point of recording that I can diagnose getting 
this final feature going.
Trying to get ready for the contest this weekend.
