John,

The FT-1000 is a great radio but all of them have problems with close
in strong signals, esp. during contesting.  ICE wouldn't be selling bandpass
filters to FT-1000 multi-op clubs if the rig was perfect.  I'm sure the FT-1000
is better than most but that doesn't mean it couldn't be enhanced further...
The bandpass filters help and making sure there is no bleedover paths in
the IF circuits are good practical methods to enhance the performance.

I'm sure there are many flavors of FT-1000 out there...for sure the NB mod
and adding an external bandpass filter (when in contest mode) aren't going
to degrade any of the FT-1000s out there.
