One of the neat things about working in weapons systems development was the
wide variety of technology one was exposed to. One weird thing is called a
"slapper detonator". To make a long story short, a small battery and
micro-controlled switching supply is used to charge a small energy storage
capacitor up to 3000 volts. It was always interesting to watch a newbie
engineer use his finger to check for warm components!
