I recently purchased a set of Amphenol "N" to SO-239 adapters. The loss of
quality was very apparent versus the same product purchased ten years prior.
The quality was so inferior, that I had to go back and check to ensure that
I had ordered correctly from the numbers stamped on the older adapter.

We're seeing this trend everywhere, including what was once the quality hand
tool market that was once dominated by U.S. companies Last weekend, I
stopped by Home Depot and discovered that even Klein had thrown in the towel
to add to the long list of companies now importing hand tools from "BY." I
purchased what may be the last set of U.S.-made Klein screwdrivers. But I
also purchased a Klein combination screwdriver that was clearly marked
"China."

Greenlee, Excelite, Crescent...nearly all but a few hand tools now made in
BY. Channel appears to be holding out -- for now anyway. It damn-near
brought a tear to my eye the first time I saw a Greenlee product made
outside the U.S. I have a set of Greenlee round chassis punches that were
once owned by my OM. These date back to the '50s when he was homebrewing
transmitters from the "Handbook."

Maybe I'll give these companies a break if the quality holds up. Time will
tell.
