And right now - all of those broken USA calls do not affect your
score but if you get one point for each one they will lower your score.

I do not think I would like to see this change to the CQ WW point
structure. I operate contests from a much more Europe disadvantaged
and I do not see how getting 1 point per QSO with the USA would
change my position in the top ten. I operated MM from Texas for
around 10 in the CQ WW contest and I do not see how this change would
make it possible to win this contest. In 1986 through a lot of
hard work and a fair amount of luck the N5AU station in Texas
won the CQ WW MM SSB contest.

The CQ WPX contest can be won (or do well score wise) from more places
that the CQ WW for several reasons - and this has been true before
the 1 point for your own country rule.
- Mults count once period - not per band.
- Mults are all over the place and generally the more
contacts you make the more mults you make.
- For single ops - only 36 hours - it was even more "fair" with
the 30 hour time limit. It is much easier to fine 30 decent hours
than 48 - the further from Europe you live.
- And - yes there is a bit less competition generally.

The thing that would level the play field the most would be make the
mult zones only - if that is what you want to do - the IARU is a great
example of this - when it was a zones only contest you could win from
many different places that were not close to Europe. Now that the
mults are Zones + Countries in the IARU the scores (mults) are lower
the further you are from mult rich Europe.
One other comment. One of the things that I like about the various contests
is that they are different. If they all had the same rules and point
structure overall they would be less interesting.
