I have tried to stay out of most of these debates since I really am in the
little pistol category and truly a real newbie when it comes to the
contesting world (only 3 years of it now) but this one has been touching a
nerve with me lately. As a former police officer I can tell you that people
are not honest by nature its part of who we are. A perfect example last
night I worked a station in the NAQP who was holding down a frequency for a
long period of time and I went back to discuss with him the fact that he was
going 3khz + or - of his center and he made the comment "that he was driving
the amp to hard" now this is a CQ contest with a power limit of 100 watts
and there was a number of stations that I know were not running 100 watts at
all. Unless they happened to have a large beam pointing right at my station
when they came out of nowhere then something wasn't right with it. But the
question is how do we curb these individuals? I have seen a lot of debate
here about how we can do it by ear which truly is just not a very effective
tool because some stations are running amazing antennas which gives them a
marked advantage over everyone else regardless of what people say stations
like K1TTT and the like who has my dream setup will always have a dominating
score over me based on my geographical location and minimal antennas. I can
safely say that David has a station that I can only dream of owning and
someday when I win the lottery I will own. But how do we level the playing
field? I truly think that its nearly an impossible task we are not going to
be able to do this short of doing some self policing and putting ourselves
into check - as an individual! If you know that you are in the wrong then
fix yourself. When I say that I am running unassisted I unplug the internet
so that I know in my heart that I am truly Unassisted. And when I say that I
am running 100 watts I check myself time and time again to make sure that I
am running 100 watts. It?s a matter of some stations who are so dead set on
winning feeling that they must cheat in order to do it - that is a sad state
of affairs with all these Super Stations out there running antennas that I
can only dream of having and towers that are tall enough that I would have
to register them with the FAA just to have them at my house what does the
added advantage of cheating get you? Your name at the top of the list? How
about putting a stop to it and working like you want it fairly and do the
right things.
Also if anyone is looking to sponsor a poor soldier who is trying his
hardest to put the winning scores up I am seeking sponsors (I can't believe
that some of these guys actually have sponsors wow amazes me!) Lol

(having the faith they are all running legally) just because they are louder
then the rest of the gang? What about antenna, height, etc.? No, it won't
