Doug has nailed it from my point of view. Every big contest at least
several times, I'll stumble across someone with just their call
so I don't know if:
A) They are an SO2R op just keeping their run frequency warm while they
work a mult on radio 2 ( I am ok with this method)
B) or They are just sending CQ TEST AB1CDE and I missed the "CQ TEST" part
C) or they are calling someone.
If I am S&P I don't have time to wait around, so some of the time (it
varies)if I don't hear anyone that they are calling, I call them and then a
small portion of the time I find out it's just as in example "C" above and
now I have called a caller. OOPS. I always feel a little bit bad as I have
just QRM'd someone and worse still, I do not hear the other station they are
calling so it's not even like I can stick around and work who they are
attempting to work. I move on. (with silent apologies)
If everyone used CQ CALLSIGN TEST, then I (or anyone else) would never call
someone that's calling someone else. I think the RTTY guys have it right
tagging CQ on the tail end of their CQ's
Am I impatient? Of course, I am in a contest !- and at least 2/3 of the
time, it's someone seeking a QSO.

I don't think signing TEST at the end is necessarily so bad.
If I am calling CQ, I might send: CQ KR2Q TEST or even just KR2Q TEST.
When someone tunes across me and all they hear is KR2Q, how do they know if
calling
someone or if I'm calling CQ? Adding TEST at the end lets everyone know I'm
looking a Q.

And really, saying that it messes up RBN/skimmer...really....that matters?
You're supposed
