Loved your post Hans.

As I posted a week or so ago, this is totally a non-issue. Anyone can do
this for much than $100 (maybe <$50) (or possibly even free)

Break the headphone line, tee it off (or Y-it off, if you like), run a 2'
stereo cable over to your favorite recording device. Hit record at zero
hour.

Click "stop" after the contest ends. Voila ! You've done it. It's a
miracle. You've recorded the contest w/o consulting with an audio engineer
like K9YC.

Yes, you could use K3IT's wonderful program called QSOrder, and/or you can
start messing with audio amps, mini mixers etc to get everything as near
perfect as possible, but

you can literally do this with a tiny Sony $40 handheld digital recorder
from BestBuy. A lot of folks already have these recorders. Read the rules.
Key words are "as heard by the operator". You don't need to mess with your
radio whatsoever.

The sky is not falling. People sure like to say it is though. It's
incredible.

If you cannot figure out how to record your contest audio, you should get
those boxes your radios came in, pack them up and sell them.

Honestly.

For purposes of discussion, I'm going to assume that a "capable of making

the top 3" operator holds an "Amateur Extra" (or equivalent non-USA grade)

license.

If he can't figure out how record audio, then you sorta start to wonder how

he passed the license examination, let alone engineered a "top 3 capable"

radio station.

Put him in touch with a local QCAO chapter.
