You're correct about the reason for having US to US points in the RTTY contest.  I'm all for the change to make it like the CW and SSB contests.  That way my 2002 SO/LP US record will never be broken :-)

I believe the rules were amended for the RTTY contest because there was
initially so little participation that it needed an enhancement to be
viable.  If its now become much more popular, the CQ WW DX RTTY should
actually consider adopting the traditional rules.

Find a contest that suits your style and location and enjoy.
