For what it's worth .....

My Omni VI manual says to adjust R3 and R4 on the Tx Audio board (81597) for 
minimum carrier. These pots adjust the AC balance, and DC balance, respectively 
of U4 - the balanced modulator IC (CA3053E).

You might try the adjustment while listening to the residual carrier on another 
receiver. The problem with a VTVM or RF probe is that they are not frequency 
selective and so they could be measuring other signals emanating from the rig.

  component has gone bad and you will need to track it down.
  Very seldom will a rig just go out of alignment all by itself unless you  
  replaced something in the circuit.
  You should not go about trimming any pots before checking  for that type of 
  problem.
