One application that I've used is a small Behringer audio mixer. It has 2
mike inputs, 2 line inputs and 2 line outputs and monitor outputs with a
stereo headphone output that is driven by a separate internal amp and volume
control. Now with that said, this allows one to feed the mike of your
choice, be dynamic, ceramic, condenser or one that requires 48 volts phantom
power {also internal} into the mixer and then from the mixer output to the
line input of the radio. This also allows EQ to be added to the specific
mike channel. By bringing the monitor and/or headphone signal from the
radio to one of the line inputs of the mixer you then have control of
everything. Lots of flexibility in controlling signals to and from the
radio.

The mixer is a Behringer EURORACK UB802 and measures 7"W x 8.5"D x 2"H and
sells new for about $59.95. Such a deal. Solves many problems and is an
"off the shelf" good quality product that with a few mating
cables/connectors is a true plug and play device.
