I don't think the concept was to pay for fixes, but to pay for new firmware
functions.  However, after some period of time, it might be reasonable to
charge for ongoing "support" much like many software companies do.  This
presumes a certain level of quality from the outset.

Why in the world would you want to pay for firmware updates to fix a product

that you have and still is not right? I am not talking about optional
features 
here.

Just curious where you are comming from?
Am I missing something here?
