Its been a long time since i built my cable (1995) but switching the 2 and 3
pins sounds right. But just at one end. My standard belkin serial cable works
just fine. I had the same trouble when I first built my cable. Caused me to
start pulling my hair out. When I did get it working I won the ARRL 10 meter
contest for our area with the help of log-eqf and my computer. Makes logging
ultra fast using boom mic and vox. FUN
I use Vista 64 and HRD and log-eqf. But have tried many others. HRD has its
quirks but is good. I was using the IC-735 set and the IC-736 to operate the
rig. Never tried the others that Tim mentioned. But after I rebuilt my
operating system(a yearly job) the IC-736 set was unable to read the rig. Go
Figure. The IC-735 displays AM no matter what I do to change it. Always have to
go to the logging software and make changes.
So for serious logging I use Log-EQF.
