Rick,

As a point of clarification, if I were buying a contest rig, it wouldn't be
another Omni VI+, it would be an Orion II, or similar rig. I was thinking of
the dual receive, dual antenna, etc.

I certainly appreciate your opinion and cannot argue with it. I guess our
difference is in definition of a 'contest rig'. I meant the hard core
contester. Not guys like me who dabble or play but don't compete. Thanks for
your thoughts. This is what makes this reflector so great.

I guess I'm having a negative day!  I disagree with the following statement.

So, if you are looking for a current rig, the Eagle is a bargain, but not a
contest rig. Great receiver, so it should be good for both rag-chew and DX
operation.

Why do I disagree?  Because it's wrong.  It is an excellent contest rig.
Now you might want to participate in some class where you might need additional
features, or you could argue in a 6m contest you need the scope, and you would
be correct, but the Eagle can "hear" just as well as anything else being used
in contests.

If you qualify the statement and say what about the Eagle is missing for a good
contest rig, then perhaps you will convince me that there are cases when you
need something more.
It certainly will perform as well or better than an Omni VI+ with 600 Hz Inrad.

The only thing I can think of is the missing band stacking, which I think is a
peanut point if you are working a single mode contest.
