James is spot on.
"Operator fatigue" can be a serious impact on one's score in a 48 hour
contest.
Some of the radios have horrendous audio.
This was one of the reasons I switched from a K3 to the Eagle.

Am I the only one to think the audio output kinda sucks ? I am NOT
one of those Hi Fi audio guys, but I mean, really... these radios are
often rated at 10% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD.) . Sheesh... that
is a really lousy specification.
Is it possible the radios are actually better than that, but manufacturers
report the rigs are "better than 10% THD" because it is easier to do that
than actually stop, measure, and report the real
specification? ... OR... is it really that bad? 1% THD would never
pass in the Hi Fi world... Geeze...I don't think my guitar amp suffers
10% THD !
Fixing or improving this spec would not expand audio bandwidth, but it might
improve overall audio output quality and make it just a little easier to
listen for extended periods. Listening to even 1% THD can cause listener
fatigue in a fairly short period of time.
Just MY take.
