I meant to add that, while Elecraft also uses the direct-sales model,
they are more in the public eye, at least here on the west coast.
They have been to the various venues of the ARRL Southwestern
Division Convention, as well as to Pacificon and Seaside.  Their
products seem to sell themselves, once hams get a glimpse of the
specs.

The Big Three JA manufacturers similarly get around, and they have
the added advantage of being displayed at HRO, AES and other ham
stores so that we can see them and even try them out on the air in
some cases.
