I have found publications of the National Lightning Institute to be helpful.

See the section on structural safety. They used to publish a booklet of standards which had super technical drawings to illustrate how it is done in larger buildings. I will make you a copy if you cannot find it on the web page, as I recall there were no copyright limitations to personal usage.
