I've recently sold a few excess items, and had the local UPS Store pack 
everything for shipping.
Some went via UPS and some went via USPS.

No problems until recently, when I sent a Drake 2-B receiver and a QRP++ 
from southern California to Cheyenne.
Upon arrival, the 100 kHz crystal in the 2-B had come loose and was 
rattling around in the receiver.
Also, the shorting wire to protect the mixer on the QRP++ was loose in 
the box.
Apparently the shipping carton took a beating, but the contents were 
otherwise fine.
