With multiple lanes, I still wait for an empty spot before merging into the round about. One of the secrets is to use signaling and move into the lane where you are going to exit ASAP. ANY traffic on the round about has the RIGHT of WAY. When one keeps this in mind all should be okay.

I'm a big fan of roundabouts but I fear that the two lane variety with
exits at each cardinal point (which we have in my area) are prone to
disaster. Bearing in mind that roundabouts go counter clockwise in USA,
here's the scenario I see happening in my local roundabouts:

Cars entering at 6 o'clock can later exit from either lane at 12 o'clock.
Cars entering at 3 o'clock can later exit from outer lane at 9 o'clock.

Car #1 enters at 6 o'clock into the inner lane (heading for 12 o'clock
exit), and then car #2 enters at 3 o'clock into the outer lane (heading for 9 o'clock exit), next to car #1. As car #1 moves to exit, crash bang boom.

Saying traffic circles are dangerous is no different than saying guns are

Then maybe people should inform themselves.

It's not the traffic circles nor the guns, it's the people.

A 4-way stop is the most ridiculous and inefficient thing in roadways.
A traffic circle keeps traffic moving, once people learn how to drive in
them.

The rules are simple: the car(s) already in the circle have the right of
way.
Those wishing to enter must wait until there is nothing coming (from their
left in most countries, or from the right in the UK).

Well, the big deal is -- they are dangerous. People don't know how to use
them. Ironically, about an hour or so after I made the original post I had
to do an errand, which took me through a roundabout. Couldn't get through
because of the fire truck, ambulance and police cars that were there
mopping
up an accident that happened a bit before I got there.
Other than being dangerous, I guess they are fine.
