Mike,

You are right. No auto-notch can replace the tunable manual notch on CW.

However if you run the 300 Hz roofing filter on the Eagle and crank its
passband filter down to 100 Hz, in most cases you won't need a notch filter.

In my little radio I can go down to 50 hz or even less if need be. But then
the other guy better not drift - HI.

Where is NA-055?

Have fun in the IOTA contest. I hope I can find time to work it. Haven't
worked it for many years. This year I supplied antennas to two expedition
stations participating in the contest, one is CR3CW (or maybe CR5CW) and the
other is OZ/DL5CW. Two years ago OZ/DL5CW took first place overall
World-Wide in his class using a prototype antenna that I loaned him. Now he
and CR3CW are using production models of the antenna.

If I get on, it will be QRP with my little Aerial-51 SKY-SDR and my
Aerial-51 Model 807 antenna. It's only 5w so working NA-055 with today's
lousy condx will be a challenge.

Gud Luk in the TEST.
Rick

Well this has certainly developed into an interesting thread but as the
poster of the original question, I am still in the dark. It appears that
there is no notch function (in the Eagle) for CW. If so, it's hard for me
to see how this could be superior to an adjustable notch which I could
employ on CW. I am still stuck with all these doggone carriers. Most are
pretty weak (s2 or less) but there is one around 14030 that is up around s7
and is pretty annoying. Well, this is just a vacation setup so I will learn
to live with it for a few more weeks.

BTW, if anyone is chasing IOTA counters, I am on NA-055 and plan to operate
in the contest at end of July.

In side-by-side comparison, an Icon IC-756 Pro2 notch filter versus an
Orion/Eagle type notch filter, using my Pro 2 manual notch filter (which
also works in CW, and is inside the AGC loop), I can hear weak but desired
signals far more easily with the otherwise inferior Pro 2 than I can with
the otherwise superior Orion/Eagle. This is especially true when the
offending carrier is keyed, since the Pro 2 receiver is not constantly
adjusting gain to compensate for the keyed offending carrier.

One can SORT of obtain similar results by turning off the AGC in the
Orion/Eagle when using the notch filter as long as you don't need any AGC
action.
