You make a good point Pete. Our beloved "League" has enough on it's plate
without having to risk its advertising revenues by calling it the way they
see it.

I completely disagree. Why shouldn't the group that supports us do this type
of test? Wouldn't it be a service to EVERY ham if the information we REALLY
care about for every radio was made available to all hams? Wouldn't that
help clean up this problem? And who better then the League to do it? they do
the reviews now so why not make them useful? Will they take an hit from
their advertisers? Probably. But, ethics usually have a cost.....

I am on the same page as you are. The amateur community needs the leagues help
to ensure that the products that are marketed and sold meet acceptable criteria
for all aspects of spectral purity. After all they do 99% of the testing
already under the product reviews, so it wouldn't cost the league anything. If
Yaesu wants to pull it's advertising after it's long-term contract with the
ARRL expires, so be it. To do so would signal the beginning of the end for
their sales of amateur products in the US. I for one don't think that Yaesu is
ready to pull the plug on the US. This is where the bulk of their profits on
amateur products comes from. Anyway, the demand for competitive top of the
line transceivers will still be there and someone will step up to meet the
demand, undoubtedly with a much better product.
