Many of these allergies, like mine, were not of the anaphylactic or the 
shock type. They just hurt and really swelled at the point of the bite 
or sting.

Yup. Things that bothered me when I was young no longer bother while 
some new things have taken their place.  Some allergies have come and 
gone within the space of a few years.

Due to the allergies I've taken shots for nearly 25 years.  When I told 
the Allergist about the stings he is the one who told me to carry the 
packet of Adolph's Meat Tenderizer. It has an enzyme that digests the 
protein in the venom, just like it partially digests your stake to make 
it tender. Think about that for a bit, or maybe not. <:-))
