No hornets that I've seen but some of us are trying to look at two things:
First, As far as I know, only one Mosley really had problems and that
was one of the big Pro antennas, I think only one of those had problems.
Gain as to older, more conventional? Who knows? Everyone has favorites
to praise and to bash. The guy who had the same station as others, but a
Mosley antenna. Could have been, the antenna, coax, connectors, or
connector installation. More than one antenna has been assembled wrong.
.30 years ago, nearly all multiband antennas used traps. There was
"generally" very little difference in antennas of a given number of
elements. Rugged, or flimsy is a different matter. I had a Cushcrafy
ATB34 tht required cleaning and tightening the bolts to the driven
element every few years. Other than that, it worked well.
The first linerally loaded antennas I saw were the 40 meter antennas. I
picked up a beat up two element from somewhere. Probably on a trade.
Don't know who made it and never did get it up. I also had a brand new
3 or 4L (think it was a KLM). I had the big mono band antennas up, but
never did get that one out of the box before I sold it. That was over
35 years ago so I'm doing good just remembering it happened.
Read K7LXC's book, or compilation. There are several books and papers
suggested by others that give actual comparisons instead of anecdotal
reports. A large number of anecdotal reports about an antenna, or
manufacturer can mean something, but a few can be many things. When
individuals set up a station, particularly a first station, the possible
reasons for poor performance are many. I've had good results with every
antenna I put up except trap verticals. The AV640 on 40 (mounted on a
32' tower and later a 24' pole) compared well against a sloping, half
wave dipole on 40 Into Europe, NZ and Au. It worked very well on six,
but the sunspot cycle was headed down hill by then. The 40 meter work
was during a low period with the band opened world wide a couple of
days. It was like 20 at the best of times.
