Well, I'd prefer 2 wpm steps. Slowing down from 25 to 22 or even from 22 to 19 
is a 
bit coarse. At higher speeds, the 3 wpm steps are OK.

I got around it by setting Farnsworth speed to (in my case) 27 wpm. Below this 
value, the Farnsworth effect reduces the character speed reduction steps, 
overall 
speed still is changed in 3 wpm steps by adding pauses. This might help in 
copying 
without having the CW sound too slow.

I have not tried this but maybe programming ^C SPEED- ^D and ^C SPEED+ ^D into 
two F keys [ say Alt-F9 and Alt-F10 ;-) ] could give the desired step size 
although 
Alt-F keys are not as handy as PgUp and PgDn. The manual says this gives speed 
de-/increase by 6 %, that's 1.8 wpm at 30 wpm, 1.2 wpm at 20 wpm etc. But when 
I 
look at the wpm display, this might have been changed to 1 wpm steps.
