Now having a new MkV I realize how dim the display is on my old FT990. Is there a way to increase display brightness on that old machine? Is it doomed to eventually fade out completely or is it just

Hi Berndt! Yes, I have checked this by pressing "fast" and turning the clarifier knob, it is at maximum. Glad to hear that it has not changed in 10 years, this was really my main concern, that the di

I followed Kjells advice below and removed the filter in front of the display on my FT990 and sure enough, the display has plenty of brilliance. Two notches up on the brightness control is plenty eno

Why not just use the audio output from the Packet DIN jack? It is designed for this. Plugs were provided when you bought the radio (if new). 73/Peter SM2CEW www.sm2cew.com no problem there. is. In wh

At risk of being flamed, I feel that this obsession with having a roofing filter in the FT1000 is somewhat exaggerated. How many times during normal use of the radio do you notice a vast improvement

My FT736R has recently been slow starting when switched on. It is not just the display, the whole radio just sits quiet when I press the power button. I have noted that if I switch it on for a few se

Robert, The service manual says that the reference frequency, measured on pin 1 of J4003, should be 10.48576 MHz +/-5Hz. This is set with trimmer TC4001 (or TCXO-2 trimmer if that board is installed)

Sounds like the internal PSU is dead. Probably a couple of capacitors in the switch mode powersupply have gone bad, this is a common fault. Try running the rig on an external 12 VDC to verify that it
