Did a lot of research/ talking on this one, so I posit this; Hypersil cores are pre-formed and "bandsawed" in half prior to assembly, which is done with band-clamps. In sum the core HAS to be shorted

You don't need carbon comp- use a pair of 100 ohm 5w Metal Oxide, Mouser PN 286-100-RC. Make the strap from the tube anode to the plate choke as one piece, make a "U" just big enough to fit 2 resisto
