This may be a well known topic, but not to me! What happens when you operate a USA 60~ hi power amp on 50~? Does the filament voltage change? B+ voltage changes? any info would be helpful? thanks aga

Uwe is right. I lived in Moscow 2 1/2 years and Budapest 4 years and managed to cook the original plate transformer in a Henry 2K during a contest, even with a fan running on it. It grunted a LOT. Re

/\ The I^2R heating in 60-Hz transformers that are operated on 50Hz comes primarily from the primary. The two fixes are: reduce the primary v. proportionately. or add turns to the primary. Decreasin

Henry amps of the 2 x 8874 vintage had a variety of problems on 50Hz. First was core saturation because the transformer was too small; second, the tuning cap for the smoothing choke was designed for

I suspect that the problem lives on, Ian. Most Henry models have tuned chokes in the power supply. Henry does offer many voltages and choice of 50-60 hz for most models, so drop-in replacement parts

It depends. Some transformers in US-made equipment are rated for 50/60 Hz and others are not. I used an SB-200 in Israel with no problems. However, if the transformer is not explicitly rated for 50 H

It is most unusual for transformers of a size commonly used in the amateur service and rated 60Hz to "burn up" when used on 50Hz. Worst case is usually poor regulation. If the 60Hz device "burns up"

More: The problem with the 2K was probably not the transformer but the tuned choke. Adding C would shift in to 100hz and restore the regulation. True, the core will saturate sooner at 50Hz but tthis

I am no guru on transformers, but would be surprised if 50-60 Hz shift needed anything like 30% more iron for equal performance. Is there someone on the reflector who has transformer design tables/so

I've designed and built a few Barry. Text e-mail doesn't lend itself to presenting the equations in a readable form. But it really isn't needed in this case. The iron difference is simply the ratio o
