The boat I bought last year "came with" an Omni-A. I have only recently been able to take time to look at this radio. It's been 20 years since I was on the air or breadboarding, but as I recall, some

It does seem like you are expecting a lot from a 20+ year old rig Rufus. Just plug it in. If it doesn't work, send it to TenTec. No doubt the grease in the pto is totally dried up anyway and tuning w

I'd be suspicious to the point of replacing ALL the miniature electrolytics. Most bridges don't adequately measure power factor in their ranges, but mine does and some new ones don't pass my tests. B

Thank you all for your "total response". I saw from the archives that this was an active and growing list, but I had no idea... <G> just power it up. If I had a regulated supply with variable limitin

Reconsider those miniature electrolytics. When they get leaky and explode they shower their neighborhood with conductive electrolyte, foil and crepe paper. But their more common failure mode is loosi

Hi RufusThe tuning knob requires a TINY little allen wrench to remove. I had to get one along with some 1/16th" Brass Wheel Collars sold by Great Planes Model Parts & Accessories. I got that little s

Rufus, and the group, OK, I know what to do if it was AC operated tube radio. See no reason not to try something like this for 12VDC. First, I know dipped tantalum electrolytics that have been prone

I don't recommend this. Operating a solid state rig at low voltage could lead to problems worse than a bad electrolytic. Biasing for all the devices will be incorect and oscillators won't be able to

Ok. Maybe I'll contact TenTec (their site didn't respond yesterday) and see what they say about the whole thing. If the reduced supply method that Stuart explained is acceptable, that's something I c

Rufus, Like I said look at the schematic of the radio, as I have only older and later Ten Tecs to the OmniA. IF it has series voltage regulators to step down the voltage, lower voltage would not work
