Most of the modern contest logging programs send CW when you push function
keys. They also provide a line that can be used to key the PTT function of
the TCVR and thence the amp, and there is a menu where you can specify the
delay between when the program asserts PTT and when it begins sending the
CW. Few contesters (well, avid contesters) send by hand anymore.

I am not surprised, you have the radio immediately making RF and there is a
slight delay in all the switching due to mechanical relays in the radio and
amplifier. I NEVER have seen contesters using vox ever with amps since the
exchanges are so quick, the relays can't function that fast. In 45 years
as a
ham, I never used vox with an amplifier, always used PTT. With PTT (or foot
switch) you tend to not speak until you press the mic, by that time the
relays
are engaged. with vox, your voice initiates the relays but you have already
said a syllable or 2 and they get cut off. Go with PTT
