To quote from the second reference:
"7-16 DIN connectors were uniquely designed for rugged service and are
the preferred connectors for low PIM service."

searching for:

intermodulation distortion connectors

gives over half a million hits. It is known as "passive
intermodulation distortion" of PIM. It is an issue for cellular
communication as there are high power signals on different frequencies
in close proximity to receiving systems. The levels they worry about
are below -140 dBc, so it is not likely to be an issue for 99% of
amateur uses, though potentially if you transmit and receive at the
same time, it could be. Note all sorts of things can generate PIM,
including antennas, so antennas for that field are speced for PIM.
