Thanks for the post!  I don't think that a unique category addresses all 
concerns of remote operation, but I certainly agree that it is a reasonable 
step, just as assisted categories were.  It will probably end up being the best 
compromise to change that is inevitable.

Simple answer.. IF the operation is a remote controlled op.. NOT within the 
commonly ascribed to 1000 ft circle type of restriction.. but more distant.. 
then that should simply be a new class of op.. NOT the same as any other op or 
station.. it isn't a home station in a remote location, where work can be 
accomplished any time available.. it isn't a "visited only for the contest" so 
a FD type op occurs.. it IS.. A REMOTE op.. supported by commercial 
communications companies, to allow the remote op. that makes it a very very 
very long speaker and key/paddle line. And THAT deserves a new class. Simple 
answer.. remote stations stand on their own.. compete with their own.. can be 
compared with ?? and the QSL card.. can be used by the rx'er.. as needed. 
Simple.
