WRTC is not truly the 'Olympics of Ham Radio' in that the most skilled
fellas are not necessarily those 52 (or whatever) teams out on the field.
Half of those on the field are chosen Teammates (and may or maynot be the
best) and the other half (Leaders) are 'generally speaking' those with some
good skills and BIG (or Super) stations.

 

WRTC qualifying is by far and large not equalized.  Depending on what part
of the World you are located in, you can qualify by having an average
station -OR- you could need 10's (or hundreds) of thousands of dollars of
gear to beat your rival in your same WRTC zone.

 

I don't know what the solution is other than to say, as in life,  "those
with deep pockets normally win".
