Being terribly facetious: Let's all fire up our spark transmitters
connected to the best HF antenna we have. Would FCC then, act?
Absolutely! How is solar much different? Don't need an old Ford spark
coil. The high-energy SCR'ed ignition systems can do wonders when coupled
toa real antenna. Again, would FCC act? Absolutely. How is solar much
different???
If the designers (Solar Edge???) would limit the rise time of the
rectangular waves driving the high power switching in the inverters, the
problem would "mostly" go away. A small loss of about 2% might result, but
RFI would be greatly reduced. Been ther.....Done that with other
systems. The technique works - Small series inductance with the drive to
the switching device gate.
I well remember reading the pages of EE-Times when switchers came along and
begun to displace linear regulators. They were the best thing to come along
since sliced bread. About a year, the readings changed. OMG!!!!! These
things produce all kinds of RFI. That went on for a couple of years with
may articles in most of thewidely read EE publications addressing how
to"tame" the RF emissions. Well, things have gotten much faster and power
FET'S have come into design bucket of tools. The problem is back. Now
what do we do. Pick one hour of one day of the coming year and all us us
put our spark transmitters 'on the air'??
Some day, and its a long story, I'll write up the trial instigated by
Homeland Security in our little farming and bedroom town of Berthoud,
Colorado, to evaluate realtime the interference potential of BPL. Not
10-minutes of going active, and the FAA was on our case and diverted ALL
commercial air traffic away from Berthoud to a 50-mile radius. And, we're
only some 60-miles from DIA in Denver.
