Not sure if this is on target or not, but with my VI/3 a few weeks ago a snapping sound began emanating from the back of the rig whenever I hit voice peaks or went key down on cw. At first I thought it was coming from the p.s. which sits on the table near the rig and suspected I was pushing the protection trip overload circuit but not actually tripping it. My solution was to decrease p.a. Ic a bit but then it began to do it a lot more. With that, "Oh-man, I hope this is easy to fix or what am I gonna do" feeling I began wiggling wires in back of the rig. It turned out to be a loose molex plug on the p.s. cord going into the rear panel socket of the Omni. I was hearing arcing when there was a sudden current draw. I jammed the plug into the socket and held it there with a wedge of foam rubber. No problems since then.

Start with the easy stuff first--wiggle wires.
