Ron:  I have to agree with your reasoning.  Several years ago, I didn't by my
Omni VI+ with the remote
idea about resale.  I have used the radio and enjoy it.  I did buy a used
Jupiter and used it as a back
up rig and liked most of it's features.  I sold the Jupiter and at times regret
letting it go. The sale of the
Jupiter allowed me to run across a really nice Heath SB1000 amp that looks new
inside.

I have bought and sold radios for quite a few years and have owned Yaesu,
Kenwood, Icom, Heath,
etc.  The TenTec has remained on the operating desk for the longest time tho.

Look gang...

Future value or potential value of a rig is important, don't misunderstand
what I'm about to say on that score.  For those with accounting minds, that
same goes for depreciation and so forth.

But:  Did you buy the radio PRIMARILY for future resale?  Or to use it in
the shack today and tomorrow?

I arranged to buy a used Omni VII back in February.  It didn't come with the
auto tuner, but did come with filters, the tuning pod, mike and power
supply.  The negotiated price at the time was quite fair, compared to the
cost of factory-new same-items.

Today, with the sale, it doesn't look like such a bargain, financially.

But!  I've had the radio for almost 5 months, I've had fun using it
(although I still favor the Omni VI+, to be honest, mainly because I've used
that as the main rig for a few years now), and I will continue to have fun
with it.  And I have plans... I may be buying software from Carl yet!

In a few weeks, when the summer sale is over, presuming the radios return to
their previous price level (give or take a few shekels)... I'll still have a
great radio acquired at a great price.

If and when I have a need to sell or trade it, I'll worry about its value
then.  Nothing changed, compared to what I'd have done under the same
circumstances without the sale.

And... if this means that Ten-Tec is moving more radios than usual, and (I
hope!) still making a profit at it, even if the profit isn't as high per
unit... all the better, right?

Yes - realistically (!) businesses have to do what they have to do. Radio
Shack just closed thousands of stores. I guess Elecraft has hurt TT a lot.

I bought a used Omni VI Plus last year. I had always wanted one, but
couldn't afford it as a new rig. Turned out that the rig I bought has three
problems so is now in for repair in Tennessee.

I must say that as a new TT fan and owner of more than one piece of their
equipment I have been "Sevierly" hurt by this decision. I bought a used Omni
VII this week, just days before their announcement. I will lose hundreds of
dollars when this rig is resold. I'm sure I won't be the only new TT
customer with regrets...
