very likely the measurement of a fully charged battery after a day or so, means the battery recharger is working.

You do not mention if you removed the corrosion from all the battery contacts and IN BETWEEN THE TRACES OF THE PCB.

Likely you have conductive compounds on the PCB that are causing current to flow all the time from the battery to other circuits besides the memory keep alive bus. You may also have a bad electrolytic on that bus.

Keep looking for such problems and you should be able to find the leaks.
Does your DVM also measure small current values?  That could be helpful.

I use baking soda to neutralize acid stains, vinegar to neutralize alkaline battery spills, and rubbing alcohol and distilled water, to clean things up, (clear type ALcohol only).
