Not true at all. The sequential baths at the galvanizer's plant include
an acid dip that takes off all rust and active metals like previous zinc
plating. Of course, if you leave it in long enough, it would also attack
the base steel. This is why galvanizers won't take anything painted -
they don't have anything in the process line that will strip paint. But
rust or mill scale? Gone...
