I have a permanent rope pulley in an elm tree about 22 feet up, that I
practice rope ascending (for in-cave climbing, another hobby) with
friends. Instead of leaving my expensive 11 mm static rope outdoors, I
have a cheap poly rope that I leave stringed and tied to the tree. Then,
I use about 8 inch length of duct tape, wind around the two ropes
placed end to end. This pulls up the good rope through the pulley. I've
done this 10 years without loosing the end yet. The same thing should
work for replacing a tower haul line, only difference is the weight is
higher for the longer length, but then again, not sure you are using
7/16 kernmantle rope either.
