I finally broke down a year or so ago and bought a brand new radio. That
radio sucks with all the menus, etc, and wish I would have spent the
same money on a good, used one. Next time I won't make the same mistake.

You have to be kidding. Most hams I know are cheapskates! I have a
Yaesu FT5000MP, An amp that will run digital 24X7, some of the largest
antennas in our area (although most are down at present) I have top
end gear, but I'm still a cheapskate and can't imagine taking offense
with someone saying most hams are cheapskates. To me it's sort of a
tarnished badge of honor.
