I think BMW's with those fancy xenon headlamps are running around with 65v systems and more for the lamps.

ï My neighbors have a BMW X-5 (she) and a 740 (he) and both vehicles have 14v electrical systems. However, the xenon-arc headlamps seemingly operate from a DC switcher supply.

At least we're talking sensible current!

ï As I recall, both vehicles have a 125A, 14v alternator.
