I cannot imagine anyone handing over a 77Dx to the UPS Store for packing &
shipment without critically examining and accepting the packing procedure.
In such a case, the selling party contributes to the culpability of the
negligent packing.
When shipping any item of monetary significance, I require the purchaser to
acknowledge and agree to the following condition of sale: "F.O.B. -
Jacksonville." Under the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), to which most
states observe by codified statute, title of goods and risk-of-loss shifts
to the purchaser at the point of delivery of goods to the shipping carrier.
Irrespective of insurance, I simply do not want to fight with the purchaser,
nor an insurance company if an item becomes damaged during transit. It may
seem unfair and unreasonable, but the provisions within the UCC were
developed because of problems like this. I am the master of my own offer.
The purchaser is free to either accept or reject the terms of the offer.
