The SB-220 was rated at 2KW PEP input which is 1 KW DC input.   According to 
the tune up procedure outlined in a SB-220 operators manual, the  output would 
be about 600-650 watts, but most hams just gunned them all the way,  maybe 
thats one reason why alot of bandswitches did not hold up.  So the  transformer 
was designed with these parameters in mind.  I don't know what  the Ameritron 
Al-1500 was designed for, I would think 1500 watts output, but  that amp 
easily makes 2250 watts output with 100 watts of drive, AND the tube  
parameters 
are not exceeded at that level.  Lou
