But that's not what we're talking about in the case of the Heath manual,
which documents a product that they sold (and with it, a copy of that
manual). Although I'm not a lawyer, tt would seem to me that using
another copy of that manual to work on their product if the original copy
of the manual happened to be lost would be "fair use," but use of the
manual to copy the product would not.
But all of this is quite separate from a PATENT, which has different
rules for lifetime, and which is much closer to your "human
knowledge/advances" issue. The CIRCUITRY in the amp may be subject to
several different patents!
