John,
I believe I first brought that up. You can Google my callsign with some key
words and I'm sure you'll see my comments in the archives.
In a nutshell, getting the AC wiring correct on the Alpha 70 and 77 series
requires: (1) 4-wire service into the shack from the load center or serving
sub-panel; (2) a new 4-wire amp power cord (old cord is 3-wire); and (3)
connections changed only on the Cinch-Jones (CJ) power plug. There is no
reason to open up the amp to make this safety change.
On the CJ plug, cut the jumper between chassis and neutral terminals. With
the new 4-wire power cord, white will go to the neutral terminal, and green
to the chassis ground terminal. That's it. Reassemble the CJ connector.
Now, the chassis is properly grounded and isolated from neutral at the
equipment.
